How Compress PDF works

  1. 1Select or drop the PDF you want to shrink.
  2. 2Pick a compression level — high compression means a smaller file and softer detail.
  3. 3Press Compress and wait for the pages to be re-encoded.
  4. 4Check the saved percentage and download the compressed PDF.

Why use this tool

  • Get under the 10 MB and 25 MB attachment limits used by most mail providers.
  • Three quality levels so you can trade sharpness for size deliberately.
  • Original and compressed sizes shown side by side before you download.

Privacy & limitations

Compress PDF runs entirely inside your browser using the File, Canvas and Web Worker APIs. Your file is never uploaded to a server, never stored, and never logged. Closing the tab removes everything from memory.

  • Pages are rasterised during compression, so selectable text and links are not preserved.
  • PDFs that are already heavily optimised may only shrink a little.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before compressing.
